10 To-Do’s Before Building Your Coaching Website

10 Questions BEFORE you build your coaching website …

I re-did my site over a dozen times …
… before it finally gained traction.

The key was to focus “on the client,” meaning:

* the content speaks to their interests
* it shows your best talents (that CLIENTS want to know)
* the pages flow smoothly so the client happily engages

1. REFILL COFFEE MUG.

If you catch me in New Zealand, New York, South Africa, or anywhere else in between, free coffee on me. Get your zing on!

2. CLARIFY THE #1 PRIMARY PURPOSE

Some common ones:

* build credibility
* clearly communicate what I do
* post credible content
* get traffic from search engines
* grow an email list
* generate leads

Getting clear helps you measure progress.

3. WHAT’S THE VISIBLITY PLAN?

Websites ARE NOT marketing.
They NEED marketing.

Websites are NOT shops in a mall that already has foot traffic. NOR ads in a magazine with a readership. Websites are like a cabin in the woods without a path to them.

So how will you get it out there?

4. IDENTIFY THE MOST IDEAL CLIENT / STRUGGLE

Outline this person’s needs, pains, and goals.

This will make the copy appealing to visitors.

If you have multiple niches, then:

* pick the better one for now
* or find a common big struggle they share

It really is about THE CLIENT.

5.  DETERMINE THE PRIMARY PATH

Someone arriving on the homepage …

* Where do you want them to start?
* And then where?
* And after that?

People WILL go wherever, but a clear path makes it easy for them.

AND easy for you track and improve “conversions”.

6. MAP IT OUT

Diagram pages and functionalityinclude email lists, blogs, booking calendars, or forms. Whatever works with your vision.

I’d suggest keeping it simple, clear, and easy. Too many sites make it complicated.

7.  ROUGHLY DRAFT EACH PAGE

What are the most important points per page?
What’s each page’s next step (call to action)?

Draft content will help you see how it all flows.
And it’ll make it easier if you hire someone.

As your site comes together, you’ll move things around, so I suggest just a draft and not necessarily finalized copy.

8. DESCRIBE THE “VISUAL VIBE.”

Don’t just put up pretty pictures.
Instead, have visuals that support the content.
Good photos of yourself that tell the story.

9. CHOOSE A “DEADLY” DEADLINE

If I have to explain “accountability,” it’s 50 lashes with a wet noodle!

My middle-school math teacher used to say that.

She also said, “Kenn gets another 100. Maybe it’s because he does all his homework.” And I’d blush because I was a shy nerdy type.

10. FIND A FITTING DOMAIN NAME

Get one that’s :

* easy to understand
* simple to spell
* makes sense

Using your own name is great too!
Some quick ideas:

* ExecutiveCoachMike .com
* FindYourWayInLife .com
* LeadWithNLPMagic .com
* CoachJanetGoodwin .com
